I got a Borla Exhaust for the Mini yesterday and I’m trying to figure out how to install it. Instructions that they sent aren’t clicking for me so I’ve resorted to Oppo

throw it at the windshield and then let me push your car into a canal.

Old parts off, new parts on. How hard could it be?

*searches for nearest canal*

Include steps relating to figthing getting the old one off, beer breaks, and plenty of swearing and blood caused by old parts.

Post the instructions and maybe I can translate them.

Yeah, probably. Hold the new exhaust against the old exhaust where you need it to go, mark the old exhaust with tape and cut. The new exhaust presumably would have come with some kind of exhaust clamp to attach at the cut

Is it not a direct fit? A good exhaust kit will usually utilize the same hanger points as the original. Lay all the parts out on the floor, in the orientation that they go on the car, and see what lines up with the existing exhaust. Tailpipe(s) goes here, muffler(s) goes there... it should become clear where all the rest goes, including whatever hardware & gaskets were included.

Non OPPO answer but it was totally worth paying the local exhaust shop $125 to do it. Really don’t like the idea of cutting parts on my expensive daily driver or damaging a very expensive new exhaust. Rather leave that to the pros and I’ll learn on a cheaper, less important beater

Other oppos look like they are doing a good job so far. Especially jkm

first you take the left bolt out
then you take the right bolt out
then you shake it all about

Its easy.
Step 1 - use cutting torch to remove old exhaust
And done!

1. Get a set of bolts, nuts, and washers of the same size as those used on the old exhaust’s flanges from your local hardware store. If you don’t have one yet, also get a grinder and a metal cutting wheel.
2. Cut off flange bolts and hangers off of old exhaust. The exhaust will drop off at this point. Remove the old piece of hanger from the hanger bushing.
3. Hang new exhaust from the bushing, mate the flange and appropriate gasket to the midpipe, and bolt it together with the new set of nuts and bolts.
4. Start up the car, take video of burble sounds, post to Oppositelock.

Here are the steps I would follow:
1. Put new exhaust parts in car
2. Drive to shop that specializes in mufflers/exhaust.
3. Ask them to install it.
4. Pay bill
5. Drive home

Carefully would be my best guess

Step 2 - start laughing maniacally and start cutting other things off the car

Isn’t that implied in the old parts off part.
![]() 05/06/2018 at 12:45 |

Probably what I’m going to end up doing
![]() 05/06/2018 at 12:57 |

Step one mail me exhaust.
Step two I take detailed pictures while I install it on my mini.
Step three buy another exhaust and follow my instructions.

Depends if welding is required. If your car requires welding then take it to a shop, end of story. If it’s all bolt on, then it’s a piece of cake to do yourself. Ideally you want access to a lift but four jackstands could work. I did my Miata exhaust on a lift and it took me like 8 hours to get it all done. I had absolutely zero experience with doing any exhaust work and just went into it with a new header, midpipe, and muffler and winged it. Every bolt was rusty and mounting the new header was a colossal pain but in the end I learned a new skill and was thoroughly happy with my results. If your car isn’t rusty, then it should take half the time if not less! Seeing the bottom of my California bought Subaru makes me cry with how clean the damn thing is. How easy doing any work down there would be.

I’ve done a few exhaust things as needed. Metro was from manifold back, and equinox I replaced the catalytic converter. Not too bad on either one.
If there is welding involved I’d take it to a muffler shop.
